Seafood Heritage
Cavners was founded in 1879 by George Cavner and has been serving Leicestershire and Rutland ever since.
Current boss Neil took over from his father, also Neil in 2000. Neil Jnr had started helping out at 12 years old and left school to join the family business at 16.
In 2010 Neil was joined by his son Alex, closely followed by his younger brother Dan.
Neils mother, Polly still likes to be kept regularly informed on the day to day running of the business even at 90!
Alex and Dan are the sixth generation in a real family business.
Freshest Supplies
Over the years Cavners has established close links with their suppliers, in some cases the previous generation Cavner dealing with the previous generation supplier!
Supplies are delivered daily from all over the UK from Newlyn in the South, to Aberdeen in the North!
Fresh fish from further a field is delivered twice a week direct from Rungis Market just outside Paris.
Five Generations of Expertise Plus Modern Ideas
Times have changed since 1879, and Cavners has changed too.
We still specialise in finest quality fresh fish expertly prepared using traditional methods handed down from one generation to the next, but over the years have also added more prepared and easy cook options including handmade fish pies, bbq kebabs, fresh fish cakes and boneless easy carve game roasts.
We offer cooking instructions, recipes and personal advice to ensure complete satisfaction.

Our latest project has been the total refurbishment of our premises on Leicester Road, Melton Mowbray. New purpose built walk in chiller and freezer have been added, along with a new mezzanine floor, ceilings and wall linings.
A retail area has been added enabling customers to collect orders placed on line or by phone or email.
Our retail and wholesale shop is now open Tuesdays to Saturdays. We always have a full range available.
